I would like to start a filmmaking career, I’m planning in getting the JVC HD200 Pro camera, but i’m not sure what kind of computer equipment to get in order to edit my project. I would like to use a good editing software maybe Vegas and use After Effects. Can some body point me in the right direction?
Don’t mind the cost, I need to know what I need.
Should this be ok?

I took your advise and looked at the Mac Pro computers, and they look pretty good. I customized it like so: Would this work? it goes for about ,700.

-I agree mostly with Rugratzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, except for the ram, 6GB are enough. and DDR3 is better (if it is available).
-CPU is great,
-GPU is a bit weak, try to get nVidia Quadro CX (especialy when using Adobe CS4).
-you should get a 3HDD solution :
1-First HD is for System boot and programs (100GB is more than enough)
2-Second one is for RAW video footage (the clips from the camera) larger is better, and 7200rpm is good but if you can afford 10000rpm is better.
3-Third HDD is for rendering the final clip into it (should be same as the second HDD)
Stay away from RAID 0 (Disable it), it won’t affect you that much in means of performance but the problem is you double the risk of losing your data (of one drive fails, the data is lost and is unrecoverable even from the other drive) especially when most NLEs are notorious for increasing the percentage of failing Hard drives.
-Don’t forget to Back up !
Hi there that’s a dangerous question to ask especially if you don’t mind the cost Ha HA
cpu ok, ram try a minimum of 8gb best 16-24gb, graphic card ok, HDD 100gb as boot and a couple of 500gb drives as scratch drives, If you are buying it from new then why not get a blue ray writer?
if you are serious about video editing, have alook at
http://www.alienware.com/products/desktop-computers.aspx
you pay a lot of money for named brands, even try your local computer store, they will build you one, you can spend some time getting the best for your money, think about duel cpu’s, as ram is not that expensive try to max out always.
hope that helps OH by the way nice camera, never played with one.
Good luck
RR
just make sure your computer has an HDMI output on it, if you want HD.
