Yes this is malware I’ve also got the message from skype a few days ago. By going to the website it will install a "virus protector" that seems to detect viruses on your pc but it’s fake and it is the actual virus on your pc. You can tell if you have it when your desktop background turns blue and says something about your computer has been infected with malware and your computer will be absolutely slow. To remove it you might want to try a system restore or use your anti-virus software to delete it
I too just encountered this, and I asked my buddy about it, and he sent me a link to here. We agree with you guys whole-heartedly that this is a scam.
I am running Kaspersky right now!
Yeah I just got that about 2 minutes ago and when I clicked on it, it did this scanning thing and sent me to this window to enter my credit card to pay $19.99 to clear the virus. Im actually kind of relieved that somebody else got it too, maybe its a scam.
Yeah i just received it like ten mins ago…idk what to do but we should be safe because we dont have microsoft windows…apple wasnt listed under affected software…
I did also but on my Blackberry where I use iSkoot to access Skype. Sounds like a scam to me, especially since no virus name or description was mentioned. I deleted the chat message, signed out and closed the application completely. I didn’t see any ill effects on my phone or computer. Scansecure.net did not come up as a real website either when I typed it into Google (I don’t recommend going directly to it, just in case it’s malicious).
Yeah, I received the same message. This reeks of malware. Skype does not contain an interface to scan active memory, drives, etc. Plus, the URL listed, http://www.scansecure.net/, lists an admistrative contact located in St. Petersburgh, RU. Moral of the story: STAY AWAY! Hope this helps.
