The best reg cleaner out there is comodo, for home use. Its free and highly recommened by several sources. They also have a firewall that is excellent also. ccleaner is also a good free tool to have to clean things up.No spyware, adware or virus’s on any of these products. I also recommend avast anti virus, also free for home use. Ive been using all of these for a long time and it keeps my comp safe and running great.
Never heard that and not recommend to use any of these tools.
I completely agree with 2008 response: none of these so called "Registry Cleaner/Optimizers" are safe. I used to use the registry cleaner in the utility CCleaner, and then one day for no apparent reason I began having issues with my system and programs. There were no rhyme or reason for the symptoms I was experiencing, though I troubleshooted extensively and went to technical help forums. Nobody had an answer for my myriad issues and my system was less than a year old.
Then, one day it crashed. I was new to systems though I had learned a lot over the years since ’05, and even though I knew I should backup my files I made the huge error of believing I had time due to the system being so new. I lost ALL of my personal files, some of which were irreplaceable. I had to use the Restoration feature which wiped out everything on my system and put it back to near condition of factory specs.
After I got up and running I decided to do research and after a few weeks some clarity began to shine through. Shockingly, the Registry Cleaner turned out to be the culprit. You see, these registry cleaners/optimizers delete keys and values from the registry. These are usually obsolete keys and values from removing applications. However, regardless of what the manufacturers of these types of tools claim, often they remove valid and viable keys and values along with the obsolete items. After a while certain weird issues begin to crop up, features in programs which don’t work as they should or at all, hangs, freezes, and missing features, etc. The OS itself was affected because critical values were erased along with others.
Slowly the damages mounted and finally crashed a perfectly good and under year old system. While you will temporarily receive some increased performance from use of these types of tools over time the damages will mount until you too begin to experience odd and weird symptoms which can result in the need to reinstall programs and finally a system fatal crash, like mine.
I share this with you so you don’t make the same mistake I did, or at the very least are forwarned and understand the real risks involved. So many individuals use and recommend these who simply do not understand the inherent risks involved. The errors and issues evolve so slowly that it is nearly impossible to know why, and often it is simply laid at the feet of an aging system. Well, systems do not need to fall apart when aging. A well maintained system can last years without a need to reinstall or repair the system.
So, check it out and use caution if you decide the benefits outweigh the risks. If you are willing to reinstall your OS once yearly, and back up your files then it is workable. Otherwise, stay away from these types of tools. CCleaner is a good utility and I still use it except for the Registry Cleaner section.
