It is good but it lacks registry Defrag. I use Reginout that has all features plus Defrag, Its pretty ok.
ccleaner is just that, a cleaner.
it removes all craps like temp file and unused registry entries that are not needed anymore.
yes, there is certain level of improvement on the performance but not a major one.
if you want to speed up your pc performance correctly, you will need to consider upgrading the hardware itself.
dosent do alot but it makes programs open faster and also gives you disk space back, it did fix a problem for me once when a game wouldnt load up, ccleaner fixed it.
I never really liked CCleaner much… Check out IOBIT Advanced System Care. Also download Windows Security Essentials as your virus protection and remove any third part anti-virus program that you have as I assure you MS Security Essentials blows them out of the water, while the others will bog your system down. A few computer housekeeping tips:
Have a close look at any programs you no longer, or rarely use, and remove them, freeing up disc space.
Defragmenting your HDD at least monthly, will do no harm either!!
