Yes indeed it will expire. They are just giving you a heads up so you can pay them and bring it up to date. If you do not you will have no protection whatsoever. It is vitally important to keep all security up to date at all times. Good luck!! Oh yes, and when you have you security up to date run a scan to check for viruses, trojan horses, adware, etc… Most security software purchased with a new computer will only give you at most 1 year of protection. That is how these companies stay in business. There are free programs out there but i would never use them. You will get what you pay for, McAfee is very good even though i do not myself use it.,
Yes store bought virus protection programs expire. I can tell you McAfee Total Protection comes with a free years of protection because i use it too. It will tell you your expiration date when you open your McAfee Security Center.
It refers to the update subscription being expired. When you buy the software, it includes one free update subscription term, and subsequent terms you’ll have to pay for to continue updating your antivirus software.
Most virus software that you can buy is only really a service. you get the software, and a year of service when you pay the initial purchase price. McAfee is asking if You ant to continue the service that you bought 1 year worth of. I know this sounds silly but what you really get from McAfee, and most security providers is their on going research and updates which keep your computer protected. In the most simplest case the people who make viruses, the jerks that they are, don’t stop. so you can’t really stop paying for anti-virus software service. A lost of people like myself use linux, and other use mac to avoid this problem. However as mac becomes more popular there will be more viruses that will try to take advantage of mac. The bottom line is that that having a secure computer costs money, or your time. you could go and research freeav and other programs which offer free software for non-commercial use.
you only bought the licence for a year.
They will stop updating the database files, making your virus scans wildly out of date and will not catch even half of the thousands of viruses created every day. They can’t take the software back, but they can certainly stop updating your copy of it.
it lasts for 1-1.5 year. Then you have to buy it AGAIN. I would just download a cracked version.
Most of them last for one year..then you have to either upgrade online or buy another. You can’t reinstall the same version. It will not work. The only way to use it over again and receive the updates is wipe out your hard drive and reinstall windows which is a fine choice unless you have a lot of stuff on your pc that you would like to keep.
Usually it’s only good for a year or 18 months. They won’t send you updates for new viruses. If it was just a one-time purchase they wouldn’t make much money.
You do not pay to renew the software. You are basically paying for a 1 year subscription of virus definition updates.
There are dozens of new viruses and other malware released upon the internet each and every day, 24/7. Without constant updates, McAfee would not be able to detect these new threats.
So yes, your McAfee will still "work" at the end of one year, but without fresh virus definition updating, it will be as useless as boobs-on-a-bull!
