Have you got the "genuine microsoft software" service installed?
I wouldn’t bother repairing, if you’re going to do that just reinstall Windows.
REPAIR Could work but the chances are very slim, moreover a repair would slow down your computer considerably, believe me ive more than enough experience in that and its not only on my computers but ive tried it on several, trust me it aint worth it,if you have to choices between reinstall and repair …i would say reinstall please…it will not only save your time but you wont have to rack your head as to whats goin on with your computer.
Repair reinstall
what it does is that the files in your windows folder are scanned by the computer and any missing file or corrupted file is replaced by the file that is saved on your xp disk.
if possible please do a FORMAT REINSTALL of the operating system, its better to do it once rather than trying different methods and end up doing a format.
PLEASE BACK UP ALL DATA BEFORE PEFORMING A FORMAT AND REINSTALL OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM
