   I’ve been using Zone Alarm for the past few years. if you set it just to work as a firewall, I don’t think it would cause problems in other programs. http://www.zonealarm.com

   I use the Zone Alarm free firewall on my home computer – free, and works well.

   I also recommend a little utility called leaktest
   http://www.grc.com/lt/leaktest.htm

   It is designed to act as an intruder to test the capabilities of your firewall.
