Need more info SP1 [Service Pack 1] can refer to lots of OSs.
What OS are you trying to run?
CPU?
NEW !
There really is no such thing as the "Latest XP"
There are several things you could try. Repairing XP by using the original install disks gives you the option to repair faulty bits w/o losing your info. {Advanced options}. Reinstalling XP should save your old XP as "Windows.old" or something like that so you wouldn’t lose your created data. It will just be harder to find.
Using something like "Win to Flash" will allow you to boot from a USB flash drive by passing your possibly corrupt system start up. You might have to change your boot order to allow the USB to kick in before the HD or CD does. Usually F2 at boo up.
Change your existing drive to a slave and install a new master with a fresh XP. Then copy all your created files from the old XP to the new drive.
Definately get SP2 and SP3 for XP ASAP!
Hope this helps ! I never know if editing a previously answered Q sends a message to say there’s more info ! Hope this finds you !
reformat it .. or use linux on it damit!!! windows XP sp1? that thing is not supported anymore.
http://www.linuxmint.com and breathe a new life into your computer.
why do people still think microsoft windows is the only way to run a computer?
edit
you dont have to lose your files. use an external drive to transfer all the data you need and then format it.
you can try running repair from your win disk but i have to say repairs hardly ever work. format is the best solution and mostly likely the only one
