System Mechanic is my tool of choice and Windows Defender on the side.
I’ve tried others and they can’t beat these 2.
Windows Defender is fantastic for allowing you to see exactly what happens when. Then you have the choice to allow or deny the process or change.
You can try CCleaner but I don’t advocate the use of Registry Cleaners. Often they can tag a critical system file that may be shared and is required for the smooth operation of your computer.
Here are some references:
One such site that I camne across is from Ed Bott where the site states:
Most people I know use registry cleaners as part of their magic cleanup routine, and I see very little upside and a lot of potential downside in this sort of routine use. Specifically, as I write below, I have never seen any evidence that routine “cleaning” of the registry has any positive effect. I stand behind that statement.

Here’s another reference from Bill Husted:
In many cases, the program itself works the same way. It will locate hundreds of problems, problems you didn’t know you had, and "fix" them. In most cases you won’t notice a difference. In a few cases it will help. In a few other cases it will actually create problems.
I give both these Web sites and programs a thumbs down. I think they can cause more problems than they cure.

LOL, I use Registry mechanic and VComm’s Fix-it on a daily basis, 99% of the time they work really well, minor hiccups at random, mostly Microsoft Office where it can remove some entries by accident but to be honest, havent noticed any for months since the last update months ago.
I always take mine to Best buy…for 30 dollars they can do it for you..
