is formatting what the techs call f-discing.cuase if it is i can save money when i have it refurbished again or maybe you can tell me how to look for bad files that my anti-virus didnt catch and regcure didnt clean.

If you format your hard drive, every file on the hard drive will be erased, so yes, it will get rid of everything. Before formatting your hard drive, make sure to have a backup of all your personal files. To format your hard drive, simply boot from the installation disc of Windows and follow the on screen wizard.
Fdisk is not the same as performing a format by the way. Fdisk is a tool which can be used to partition a hard drive. Once a hard drive is partitioned, each partition will need to be formatted before you can use it. If you are happy with how your current partition or partitions are set up, there is no need ot use fdisk and you can simply format the partition or partitions which you have.
To tell you the truth, theres always that risk when you have a virus. Whenever I get a virus, I ALWAYS format my disks because the majority of viruses these days cannot be removed with any antivirus programs. Besides formatting gives you a fresh start and who doesnt like those?
And yes, fdisking is formatting a computer.
