   But if your trying to repair because if a virus or spyware this is unlikely to fix the problem. Give it a shot but until you get the system clean your likely to just waste an hour. Consider that with Root Kits you can actually never be sure a system is clean once infected.

   Boot from XP CD, at the first screen hit Enter (NOT REPAIR), this should thing bring you to a screen where it sees the HD's and partitions and you can then select Repair. If Repair is not an option then your looking at a reload.

   You can aslo use XP's System Restore feature…

   No software is is required to repair windows xp. Just insert ur xp cd.It will ask for reinstallation or a repair.You select repair and it'll do the rest.
