Let’s address a few things.
The Imac’s get really hot, and just mainly at the top of the computer. Thats where the heat is dispersed.
The diagnostic was so short because they installed Activity Monitor. That monitors the heat levels of the computer and also adjusts the speeds of the fans. It also allows you to force quit applications, and see how much RAM is being dispersed, download speeds, etc….
So the reason your Genius Bar appointment was so fast was because nothing was wrong. Your computer is fine. I’d recommend you back up your computer with time machine anyway because just incase other crap happens like HDD failure and whatnot you’ll be fine. So stop being paranoid.
The apple store will not charge you any fee besides out of warranty repairs and a 10% restocking fee. You shouldn’t have to go to them to back up your computer with a hard drive. If you have Apple Care call them and they can instruct you how to back up your computer.
One last note, your stupid for emailing Jobs. You really think he’s going to respond to you? And even if he did he wouldn’t do squat.
Hi Barb,
I have a MacBook Pro and it is always pretty hot. It gets so hot that I can’t set it on my lap … laptop … lol! I have to put a pillow under it. I don’t sit with it much as I like to keep it ventilated to keep it from "revving up" (when it totally freezes up) … and overheating.
About a year ago, I had a battery get so hot that it bulged out and almost exploded. I took it to the Mac store and they immediately replaced it at no cost. They said that they had never seen anything like that happen.
I also notice my adapter gets very hot as well.
If it’s under warranty, I would think that they would have to fix it.
Hope this helps … good luck:)

If Apple wants to re-load your MAC they can use their own hard drive to back it up. A diagnostic test needs to stress the PC for several hours (like 24). If it locks up or smokes, it’s at Apple’s expense.
Just to be on the safe side you might want to invest in a cheap thumb drive to back up any important files. (documents, pictures, etc.)
