I think suburban is on the right track..is there a linksys application on the PC..if so theres prob a setting in the app to allow xp to control the connection..I nearly always find its easier to use win xp than these vendor apps
A little error I think is that your network connection on your computer is corrupt and if so is relatively easy to remove you see you have re-set or re-installed even refreshed the network list but the old setting is still there I think thats what you are trying to connect to so here goes switch of your router
and on your computer (bottom right of screen ) right click the wireless icon and do this
1,Choose Network and Sharing Centre
2,From this menu Choose (Manage Wireless Networks)
3, When all the Networks Appear highlight yours and choose remove
4,Close down your Computer and turn on your router
5.Now turn on your Computer
1, Go to the Wireless icon and this time right click and choose connect
when your Network appears Select it and connect add your pass key and hopefully you will be re-connected
ok, couple of questions:
1. Is your router wireless, ie is your computer upstairs running on wireless?
2. Have you tried connecting via the cable with your laptop? does it work/?
3. Have you entered or need to enter a WEP key?
4. seek your service providers help! 🙂
Yah I know that was more than a couple of questions 😛
Hard to say, but it sounds like a third party or vendor application is attempting to manage your wireless connection. Check your system tray (small icons next to the clock) for any other icons that report on your wireless connection. If you find it, you can attempt to either use it or uninstall it. I’ve had more luck with vendor provided connection administration programs. If you don’t have one, try to install any such programs available from your computer or wireless network interface manufacturer. If you provide more info (computer model or wireless card model) I can be more help.
