you need to watch out with stuff from miscrosft updates. some of them will have virus or trojans. i learned the hard way one time. i have to save up around $200 to get my computer clean. even to tell you. sometimes laptops sucks. i was told you or anyone can’t do much. you might have to get a desktop. not trying to be mean.
* Get free version of Superantispyware. Finds viruses and spyware that are very very hard to find with no conflict to other antivirus software. http://www.superantispyware.com Update (manual) daily free.
-or-
* A Squared Free Edition – http://www.emsisoft.com
Remove infections of Trojans, Spyware, Adware, Worms, Keyloggers, Rootkits, Dialers and other malicious programs. Do a search for this.
* Note: Practically all Spyware and Hijackers tend to target ‘Internet Explorer’ and not other browsers. If you don’t mind switching your browser, then you should switch and immediately greatly reduce your risk of infecting your computer. I would recommend… Mozilla Firefox. A new version of the Web browser is scheduled for release Tuesday with improvements in security, speed and design. It also will start blocking rather than simply warning about sites known to engage in "phishing" scams that try to trick users into revealing passwords and other sensitive information. The new version adds protection from sites known to distribute viruses and other malicious software.
* If you want to stick with IE… Make your Internet Explorer more secure with the WOT add-on – http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/details.aspx?view=info&itemid=6003789
Trojans from Microsoft updates? You have it backwards. The fact that you are running an old, obsolete, insecure version of XP (SP1) that hasn’t been updated in years is why you have multiple infections.
XP is up to SP3 now. XP with SP1 is frankly a malware-magnet.
I suggest that you upgrade.
From safemode run this online scanner

It should be able to get rid of anything that you have. Good luck.
download and install kaspersky

I truly don’t believe that Microsoft Updates gave you the trojan horses. You got the trojan horses by not protecting your pc prior you using it.. I heard conflicting stories about AVG Antivirus. This program should be able to quarantine and eradicate the virus and trojan horses but, like you said, it failed to support that. So, why don’t we do this instead. Go to http://www.symantec.com/trialware and download the latest version of Norton Internet Security 2008 and save the setup file on your desktop but don’t install the program yet. It is a 15-day free trial. Once the download is finished, uninstall your AVG Antivirus program because it is not advisable to have 2 Antivirus programs running simultaneously because it will conflict each other thereby leaving your system prone to attacks versus protecting it. Once you have uninstalled your AVG, reboot your pc if it asked you to do so, otherwise, install the Norton Internet Security program. Once installed, update the definition and program files. You might need to do this twice and reboot. Then scan your entire hard disk drive. This should quarantine and eradicate your virus/trojans.
By the way, do not reinstall your operating system. It doesn’t get rid of these malwares because they already changed your Windows Registries.
It’s also good to have an anitspyware program. Go to http://www.webroot.com and select "Trials" to download their free 30-day trial program of Spysweeper. Once again, install and update the definition files then perfrom a whole system scan.
I hope this helps and always follow this rule: Never let your system be unprotected. Invest in a good antivirus and antispyware programs.
