To choose a registry cleaner, the most important thing is that it should be a safe and stable one. I mean it won’t delete useful files from your computer and then strongly impact computer performance.
Also, you should know the importance of registry.Registry is the centre database of your computer operating system which contains information and settings for hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. You must load the registry whenever you launch any programs on your computer. If the registry is too fat or with some errors, computer’s performance will seriously be impacted.
It should have a powerful function of fixing registry errors and optimize registry. However, you just need to click simple buttons to take a full to scan your computer and find errors. Then, you still need to Click simple buttons to fix them all.
Personally, i like Wondershare Registry Optimizer which has integrated functions like clean and optimize registry, IE manager, Stat up manager, uninstall manager and back up tools.
If you prefer to use free ones, you can go http://www.ccleaner.com to download a registry cleaner. it will help to scan registry errors. And then go http://www.system-tools-software.com/free-registry-defrag/ to download a totally free registry defrag to clean up your registry thoroughly.
Hope you find a proper one.
My personal favorite is called
CCleaner which someone has already posted.
If you want to do download something then do this
open start menu -> search -> disk clean up (older then windows 7) or for windows 7 search "free up disk space by deleting unnecessary files" then click it, highlight everything then push the button down at the bottom that says "ok", then another window will show up then say yes.
CCleaner and Comodo System Cleaner
Get them free at CNET http://www.download.com
There’s one called "CCleaner" which is totally free. You can get it from http://www.ccleaner.com and its quite popular.
CCleaner is okay if you just want to remove a bunch of ‘errors’ that you have on your Pc, but if you want ti to speed up your sysem or stop a particular error / problem, then it’s pretty poor. We used to use this and it would only find 50 errors typically, whilst one such as "RegCure" was able to find 500+.
If you want to use the cleaner to fix specific problems or to speed up your PC, it’s worth looking at this site: http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/best_registry_cleaner_tools.html
