I’m told that even though one defrags and frees up disc space and/or deletes programs–info still remains in the "Registry" what the heck is that and how do I clean it out (when do you clean it?)

Good luck!
I don’t know why the first answer has been given a thumbs down as ccleaner is a good app for cleaning the reg. Other tools may go further, but ccleaner removes all the broken links, and it’s free. It also removes all the squirrelled away temp files that you just don’t see.
Hello flastyk,
Yes is a good idea to clean your registry once in awhile when you been installing and UNinstalling programs. Some programmers sometimes for get to get all the traces to thier programs and this cause conflicts when Windows loads, it’s trying to find a shared dll or some sort of file somewhere.. most of the time you will NOT see this type of actions unles you have a program to see these sort of things.
I use a program called Reg Seeker (see below for a link) and have used that for ages. Simple, fast and easy to use. However, I would suggest reading the docs for this (as any program that is used) to obtain more information.
Hope this helps.
