I want to sell my old computer on E-bay but since I used it to shop online and pay bills and such I am worried that someone who is good with computers would be able to find this old information on my computer. I’ve removed all my programs by uninstalling and deleted all personal videos and photos but how can I completely clean it so no one can access my personal information?

Go to download.com and search on and download KillDisk
Put it on a CD or DVD and run it. It will completely wipe your hard drive by rewriting every bit/byte on it with 1’s and 0’s. Absolutly NO DATA WILL REMAIN!!!
You can then reinstall your operating system if you plan to sell it along with your PC.

You could wipe the hard drive using a low-level formatting utility (which you would get from your drive manufacturer’s web site) and then reinstall the OS.
Less drastic would be:
– Delete all personal files, browser cache, etc.
– Erase all empty sectors of the disk and cluster tips with a program like Eraser.
Restart your computer. Press F11 (or F8 on some processors). It will load a restore which will wipe everything on your computer. Either that or sell it without a hard drive.
Just run this on it.
