You can try the following-
1) Scan for viruses and spyware , I recommend AVG and Spybot. But dont run two AV programs at the same time.
2) Reduce the number of programs loading at startup. Have only the ones absolutely necessary.
3)Uninstall programs you may never need and also run a diskcleanup and chkdsk. CCleaner is a great diskcleanup program, its free.
4) Defragment. Check your HDD free space. The built in defragger needs atleast 15% free space. But better programs like Diskeeper defrag with as less as 5% free space. Whats more, it can be set to run in the background automatically. You can download the free 30 day trial version here-
http://www.diskeeper.com/defrag.aspx
5)Ensure that your PC has enough RAM, if not upgrade. 1 to 2GB is the bare minimum nowadays.
Depending on how old your computer is it might be a waste of time doing anything. If it’s recent i would download a free copy of CCleaner and run it . Upgrade the computers memory.
Configure programs that are running in the background not to run automatically on start up. Run them when you want to use them.
Some Anti-Virus programs eat your computer for lunch. Norton and McAfee are 2 of the worse. ESET Nod32 has the smallest footprint of all of them and is one of the best also.
Defrag your hard drive after a good cleaning and see how it works.
If it’s still slow you will have to consider other options.
Download Registry Accelerator from the following link
http://www.windowssupporter.com/registry_accelerator
Scan all files using anti-virus program you have
Click on start, select all programs, go to accessories, then go to system tools and select fragmenting tool.
Defrag all drives you have on your computer. After defraging log off and log-on again and feel the difference.
Clear unwanted stuff off of your hard drive and then you may want to run a virus scan with a program such as AVG or anything similar. Clear viruses found and it should make a difference in a way. To make it completely fast you will need to go to the extreme with this process like clearing everything but important things.
download avg 8.0, it’s free. http://free.avg.com/
Let that scan the whole computer. After that go to start, then run and type in prefetch then delet everythaing on that page.
then type in cookies and do the same.
then type temp and do the same. This should speed things up alot.
Download Ccleaner and run it. Next, defrag your system using windows defrag. Next. buy more ram.

make it run faster.
you could reformat your harddrive (make sure you save the things you need onto an external hardrive) and then reinstall your OS and things should move much quicker. I did this recently and it is much quicker.
Everyone knows that Windows computers can sometimes slow down over time. While not an exhaustive list of solutions to problems, this collection presents some ways to speed up a computer.
1. De-Fragmenting
Over time, the data on your hard drive gets scattered. Defragmenting your hard drive puts your data back into sequential order, making it easier for Windows to access it. As a result, the performance of your computer will improve.
a) Right click of C Disk.
b) Click properties.
c) Click tools tab.
d) Click "Defragment now".
e) Click Defragment.
2. Uninstall Unneeded Programs
Removing programs that you no longer use can free up space on your computer and speed up your system’s performance. However, you need to uninstall the programs properly to see much improvement; deleting them is not enough.
3. Stop Programs from starting on Windows boot
One way you can speed up your computer is to prevent programs from launching themselves at start-up. Not only do the unwanted programs delay the start of Windows, they also continue to slow down your computer since they use system resources.
a) Open your Start menu.
b) Click Run
c) In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
d) In the "system configuration utility", click either "service" or "startup" tab
e) Uncheck all programs that you are no longer using.
f) Click "OK"
4. Check for Spyware and Adware
Spyware is software that allows companies to monitor what websites you visit or even access your computer. Adware is software that displays advertisements. Both use system resources and slow your computer down. Detecting and removing the programs will improve system performance.
