You may have unwanted memory resident programs when Windows starts up and is taking up your valuable memory even though you don’t use it.
For example, if you had a printer and had replaced it with a new one then installed the CD that came with the new printer, all the old software has to be uninstalled. Also, the new printer’s CD comes with a lot of unnecessary stuff such as checking online for supplies, etc. Also, if you purchased a new digital camera and installed the things in the CD that came with it, these are all unnecessary stuff as well and simply becomes memory resident and use up valuable memory.
In addition, programs such as Browser Add-On and Tool bars will also slow down your internet access. For example Google Tool Bar, AIM Tool Bar, Search Bars, etc. If you know that you are not using these programs, it is time to uninstall them and free up some of your memory.
Also, if your computer boots up and you have Yahoo Messenger, AIM, Skype, MSN, etc running automatically, these all suck up the valuable memory you have and slows down your computer considerably. Consider turning off all of these auto log in chat programs and only invoke the ones you use while on line. You may also consider using just one universal chat program such as Meebo. Of course you will lose all the cute stuff from each individual chat programs but that’s the price you pay to having a lean machine.
In Vista, go to your Control Panel and run the Add and Remove Programs. It will list the stuff above and actually tell you when you accessed it last. If you know you are not using that particular program, simply uninstall it. Don’t do it all in one shot. Do one or 2 at a time and restart your computer to see if all is well. Continue to do this until all the unnecessary programs have been removed. This should make your system run a bit faster now.
If you are tech savvy enough or have a friend who is, another way to remove memory resident program is to run msconfig. It will list the programs that runs when your system comes on. Go through the list and see if any of them are not necessary such as Adobe Download Manager or JAVA Update Scheduler. Also check for old programs that you don’t need anymore such as old anti-virus programs before you installed AVG. As with every modification, do things one at a time. Be extra careful as well, one mistake and you may cause more problems after.
There’s also the matter of too much registry entries from the old programs that were installed and removed. You can download and use CCleaner to clean and tweak your registry. Again, be careful and if you are not comfortable doing this, ask a tech savvy friend for assistance.
If all of the above have been done and your system is still sluggish, consider adding more memory to speed up your computer.
You could also be running out of hard drive space and your pagefile versus your memory is diminishing. You can try to delete your pagefile.sys and then reboot to see if that helps. Also try to defrag your hard drive as well.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new software, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
The problem with slow computers is that most of the time. It’s all to do with a hidden part of your system which hardly anyone knows about. This part of your system is called the ‘registry’ and is a huge database which stores all the settings and options for your PC.The reason why the registry is responsible for making your computer run slow is because it is actually prone to getting corrupt and damaged. Because Windows is constantly using the database when you’re using your computer, it’s constantly got 100’s of registry files open. This unfortunately means that Windows gets confused, leading it to save the registry files wrong, making them incredibly difficult for your computer to read. Think of them as files which are all jumbled up, making your computer have to spend longer to read them. There’s an easy way to fix this and make it run as fast as it would if it were new. You just need to be able to clean out all the damaged files from the registry, allowing Windows to read all the files it needs, when it needs them. And to do this, you just need to use a tool called a ‘registry cleaner’.I should like to commend Registry Easy to you !http://make-computer-run-smoothly.com
You probably have a lot of prorgrams running on startup.
Go to Start Menu -> Run… and type msconfig
Go to the startup tab and look at all the programs that are running on startup. Uncheck the unnecessary programs that dont need to be running.
Perhaps, your pc infected spyware/trojan, you can try another software to remove it.

Registry problem
Lots of things get saved on your PC that you don’t need. Some are benign. Some slow you down. And some let prying eyes track what you do on your PC.

well you can add Ram memory that will help and you can also go to Start-Run- type "msconfig" then press enter. In the Start Up tab you can disable the applications that are slowing the computer down. Another factor could be the Hard Drive is getting old normally what i do is reinstall Windows and the system that helps a lot.
there is a startup program holding you up i think. Go to run type msconfig then startup tab and disable some programs then try again. But do it one at a time to find the culprit. Could be a device driver too. Did you install anything lately to do that? Or got to f8 then go to last known config highlight then reboot
You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.
