The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, slow internet surfing, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.
Recommended: Run a Registry Scan http://make-computer-run-smoothly.com Now to Detect Errors and Improve your PC’s speed instantly!
1. Backup ALL your important files: Documents, pictures, term papers, etc.
2. Blow dust out of fans and heat sinks. Common problem!
3. Check your memory. Recommended minimum is 1 Gig
4. Un-install Unused Programs via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
5. Run Disk Cleanup
6. Run Check Disk
7. Run Disk Defragmenter.
8. Visit Windows Updates and get ALL Updates. Repeat until no updates found!
9. Update Security Software and do FULL scans
10. Clean your registry.

download ccleaner and run it
Refresh the whole system. I do this once a year. Save whatever data you want, then reformat the drive and reload windows, then any programs you have and any data you saved.
If this seems like a lot of hassle, then next time you buy a PC, think in advance and at that moment, partition the hard drive and use ghost to take a copy of your C drive. Then put any data you want on the other partition and refreshing the C drive is simple.
You should run a couple spyware remover apps first. Spybot search and destroy is a good one and SuperAntiSpyware is another good one. They are both free too. You can use google to find good spyware removers.
Do you have anti Virus? If so run a complete system scan. If yo don’t have anti virus, you can google Avast Home. It is a free edition of Avast and works well.
Another thing you can do is disable some of the useless start up programs that run when you start your pc.
Click Start and Run. Type msconfig and hit enter. click the start up tab and look through there for stuff you don’t need starting up automatically. Some if them you may not know what they are and some of them are obvious.
Another thing you could do is stop using Internet explorer! Internet explorer is the worst browser to use for browsing the net. It is the most insecure browser PERIOD. Use FireFox or Safari.

do what Jr said and it might also help to use cc cleaner and maybe faster internet if you don’t already.
run scandisk (right click my computer, properties, tools, scandisk)
try defraging your hard disk
be sure you are not infected by a virus, update your antivirus
try cleaning up your registry
remove programs you are not using (on control panel, add/remove programs)
check the ff if you needed to upgrade your computer specs
memory
processor speed
usually, this will do the trick.
Can you remember the last time you cleaned and optimized your registry? This is a frequent cause of your computer becoming slow. Like a car that needs to go to the mechanic for fine tuning, in order to maintain computer performance you need an occasional tune up yourself. The best way to do this is by downloading a registry cleaner. You can get my favorite at:
