I agree with other participants .Cause if you delete registry on your own you will waste your time and you may make a mistake but in the end you may learn how to make a registry cleaning .If you aren’t interested in learning computer you should use a registry cleaner .
Ella has explained in the simplest of terms. I feel the need to add only, if you don’t know what you’re doing then don’t. Or, be prepared to wipe your hard drive and completly reformat, one wrong keystroke could disable windows or some other important program.
Do some serious reading first.
You can do it by hand – assuming that you want to go line by line through the hundreds of thousands of entries that make up the registry, and that you know which entries are copied from other entries so that you have to delete the right one first, and you know which entries need deleting and you are careful not to make a single mistake because it will corrupt the registry and your computer will not longer be able to boot windows. But you can do it.
Better to run one of the free registry celaning programs. A good one is ccleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com which not only has a tool for cleaning the registry, but for cleaning Internet history, temp files, and other things that can slow or crash your PC.
There is a free regcleaner from M$.
You can do it yourself but you have to be really careful you do not delete something you need. In fact, you should probably make a backup before doing anything. Here are the instructions:
– Click on the ‘Start’ button (the windows start)
– Select the ‘Run…’ option
– type in ‘regedit’ and hit Enter
This will bring up the registry editor that comes with windows XP. To make a backup, select File, Export and save it somewhere.
Now you are ready, you can see the registry looks like a directory. Just choose what you want to delete and hit the ‘Del’ key.
Editing the registry can cripple your system if you delete the wrong thing(s). Better to use software that allows you to make backups and reverse any errors. I’ve used ccleaner for a couple of years and it works really well. Never had to use the backup feature.
