Now you have to wait for the defragmentation process which can take up to a couple of hours.
Step8
When finished, you can view the report if you wish. It tells you how much space you’ve opened up.

Most computers actually run slow because of a hidden part of your system, which is constantly being used by Windows. This part of your PC is called the "registry" and is the central database for Windows, which stores everything from your latest emails to your desktop wallpaper. It’s one of the most important parts of Windows and can easily make your PC run slow. The more corrupt registry files your computer has, the more it struggles to read them. The files which makes it run slower and slower. To fix this, you simply need to use a registry cleaner http://computer-e-book-money.com . These are small software tools which actually work by scanning through the registry and fixing any bad files that are in there. This then allows Windows to read as many files as it wants, when it wants to.
you could try this……clean up your hard drive
If you want to clean up the hdd go to add and remove programs in the control panel and delete all the programs you dont use or want…then this…
1) from internet explorer—-click on tools>click on internet options>delete "temporary files" ,"cookies" and "history"…
2)click on "start">computer>right click on "c drive">properties>click on "disk cleanup"..put a check in the box next to downloaded programs, temporary internet files, recycle bin and temporary files…click on "ok"…that will clean that up…
3) optional>download and run ccleaner..http://www.ccleaner.com/
version(2.20)..that will clean up everything on your hdd that the 1st 2 steps missed..its a really simple cleaner to use…you can also clean your registry with this program…its simple and safe….read the directions and back up your registry…the program will prompt you to do this…click yes,and save it to a place where you can find it easily….
4) defrag your hard drive when done w/these steps..
also run virus and spyware scans frequently….you could also try upgrading your ram if possible……or for a better fix all wipe your hdd and reinstall windows again….i would do that as a last resort….

Wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows is really the best way to speed up the computer. After seven years there are alot of file fragmeants and old Registry keys that bog down the OS.
Also, how much RAM do you have? Installing more RAM is the best hardware upgrade you can do. If you don’t know what kind and how much RAM your computer can use, go to crucial.com and use their Advisor tool. Write down the type you need and look for it on Ebay, as older RAM is expensive compared to new, and Ebay you will probably find it cheapest. I know I did.
If you don’t want to reinstall Windows, or don’t have the install disk, then the usual applies.
Uninstall unnecessary programs and files, do Disk Cleanup and then defrag the drive.
Use msconfig to stop unnecessary programs from starting up and running in the background.
The best way to speed up your computer is to install at least a Gigabyte of ram. If your computer won’t take that much, can it and buy a new one.
If it will take a least a Gig of ram, I would do a fresh install of the operating system. That is the best way to get your computer running like new again.
Hope this helps.
