Install additional RAM in your computer, that will surely make your computer speed up, also run a full scan for viruses so as to delete those potential virus carrier.
How about upgrading your RAM. Compared to the computer processor and video card this is fairly easier to do because of spare part availability and compatibility.
How to use the tools available in Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) and Windows Vista to more efficiently maintain your computer and safeguard your privacy when you’re online.

Also, adding RAM, monitoring memory usage (RAM + Virtual Memory) through Windows Task Manager and managing memory helps. For Virtual Memory, log on using an administrator account then go to Control Panel>System>Advanced Tab>Performance>Settings>Change. Select the System Managed Size unless you know what you’re doing. If you have lots of RAM, your Custom Size settings would be very different than if you have very little RAM (<512MB). Also, manage your processes and programs–especially those that load at Startup. Check System Configuration Utility. Go to Run>msconfig>Enter>Startup Tab. Clean out unnecessary programs one at a time to see how they affect performance. Some of them will reload unless you go deeper. Clean out those Startup programs not only in your profile but also that of All Users. Working with the Group Policy console also helps. See Tuning Up System Performance (Ch. 10 of "Windows XP Inside Out" book).

Well beyond general maintenance, you could think about buying more RAM. It’s a fairly cheap way to give your computer a bit more speed.
That’s it short of installing more RAM.
