At least I think that’s what its called, I have never done it and my friend said that I should, but I am unsure how…
Can anyone help? Someone on yahoo gave me this link http://www.registryeasy.com/ for registry easy which does a free scan, is it safe (no viruses)?
Is there anyway to do this just with a program that came with my computer?

Well you’re going to get two answers here.
Most people will tell you to use the free cleaner "CCleaner" which u can get from http://www.ccleaner.com – but this is BAD because it just tries to find as many problems as possible to make itself look good (why else would it be free)?
You need to be careful with the regsitry because it’s a crucial part of your system. If you screw up one of the important files inside it, you’re going to have BIG problems down the line… so you need to be sure the registry cleaner you use will be as "delicate" as possible with your PC.
The best regsitry cleaner I’ve used is one called "RegCure". It’s very fast at scanning and it speeds up your computer a lot. You can see exactly what it does here: http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/regcure_review.html
Registry overload can happen due to continuous saving and downloading of files. If you have an overloaded windows registry, it can confuse the computer on what right program to execute because of the files being cluttered. Not only will your computer slow down but it may also freeze up.
You can use registry cleaners such as CCleaner, EUsing, RegSeeker, Free Defrag, Auslogics Defrag, AWC Personal , EasyCleaner, RegCleaner , Wise Cleaner , or AML Soft Cleaner .
I use CCLEANER from http://www.ccleaner.com
It’s free (just skip past their donation request page)
I’ve never had a problem with it, and it’s one of the ones that IT people will reccomend
There are no registry cleaners that come with windows but there are a whole bunch out there. I run a few reg cleaners about every month as I do maintenance on my computers. Since no one reg cleaner seems to take care of all issue, these are the three free ones I use:
– CCleaner; This also cleans out the temp files and cookies that you get while surfing the Internet. The reg cleaner is a separate function that you can use any time. Try this one first since it allows you to back up what you’re removing so if something goes wrong, you can restore it.
– EasyCleaner; This one is also a multi tool that does more than just clean the registry but I just use this for the registry.
– Eusing Free Registry Cleaner; This seems to find a lot that the other don’t find but like I said before, I have not seen one reg cleaner that does as good of a job and running more than one reg cleaner.
I get most of my free apps from http://www.download.com; it’s a great resource that’s been around for years and never gave me any problems with viruses, spyware, or malware.
You have to download a registry cleaner. Be careful because it’s a known fact that some cleaners may cause damage to some applications.
Example: Every time I use this one cleaner I have to reinstall Visual Studio is I want to use the website template.
