I have a Dell laptop. I think it’s infected. I have AVG spyware. There are pop-ups everywhere and my keys seem stuck when I type. Please explain like I’m a total moron – I am when it comes to computers. How do I wipe it clean or get rid of infection? Thanks.

any important data on this drive that you don’t have backed up…..that would be my 1st step – then you can go about all other steps…. maybe back up and then work with it for a couple days – once you reformat and reload windows and programs it is very very hard to go back and get any "now over written important data!"

you should reformat it. first if you have your installation of your windows like window xp reboot your computer then insert the cd in the cd driver then reformat it. there are options there just look for "reformat partition drive". if you dont have the installation disc then buy one
download SDAT.exe from mcafee site
login with safe mode
create a folder in c drive
goto command prompt –> sdat -e will extract files
change system restore option turned off .
login with safemode –>commnd prompt
change directory c:\sdat (sdat a folder which you created and extracted files)
scan c: /all /delete
it will remove all viruses
delete unnecessary files
restart the system after completed it will clean up
better uninstall any free utulity which you downloaded recently
