I have written an article on my blog which covers 7 easy ways to clean up, speed up and maintain your computer using completely free software. Give it a read I think you will find it very useful.
You can view the article at the following link: http://daily-grind.net/?p=151
It covers the following points:
* Cleaning out dirt and dust
* Removing unneccessary start-up programs
* Uninstall old and unsused software
* Clear temporary files
* Defragment the hard drive
* Clean up the registry
* Scan for viruses and spyware/malware
I hope this helps you! It has certainly helped a lot of people in the past.
Decreased computer performance can be the result of many different things. First of all just having an anti-virus program does not give you 100% protection from all the malware out there. You need to download a free program called Malwarebytes and make sure to update it and then run a "quick scan." Second, download a program called CCleaner. This program has tools to cleanup all the clutter and junk on the system. Just running those two programs will probably give you a noticeable increase in your performance (especially in internet explorer). Third, clear off pictures, videos, and things like that to an external hard drive. These types of things are loaded into the systems cache memory when you boot up your computer thus causing a delay in your startup and decreased computer performance. CCleaner also provides a tool to limit what programs run at startup. Here you should only allow the ESSENTIAL programs to startup. All the others you can access from the "All Programs" menu by hitting the "Start" button. Vista’s minimum requirement for decent performance is 2GB of Memory or RAM. Vista also reserves 1GB of this memory for the operating system. This means it leaves you with very little memory to do other things. If you have a lot of "stuff" on your computer then you will want to upgrade your memory to 4GB at least if 2gb is what you have. Lastly, stop using internet explorer. It is a very buggy, slow, and an insecure web browser. Download Google Chrome and use that instead. We have a Blog Post on our website that explains that in depth a little more. Hope this helps. Please let us know if we can help you further.
Hi,
What you need to do is increase the system performance by doing system optimization tasks listed below. Some of them can be easily done using a software called RegInOut available for download here: http://download.cnet.com/RegInOut/3000-2094_4-10965219.html?part=dl-10053761&subj=dl&tag=button

If your computer is more than a year old you need to reinstall Windows.
To keep Windows running at peak performance you have to ‘Reboot everyday, Defrag once a Month, and Reinstall once a Year’.
what i do when my computer gets slow, is that, if you do not have any very important files ( if you do, back them up into a external hard drive) is that during the boot up screen when at the bottom of the screen says "PC recovery press F1" or whatever F key. press that F key. and first try System Recovery (or what ever it is called. it sends your computer back a week, month, etc.) if that does not work, choose "Destructive System Recovery" that option will completely DESTROY everything on your computer and restore it to factory settings
i hope that helps
We need to know more about the info, however it could be u do not have enough ram, and ur antivirus, could take up more ram, this is what i had trouble wiht before, antivirus takes a bunch of ram, well what u could do is use a software called ‘game booster’ it speeds up your pc’s performance, whiich is used for gaming, but iuse itfor when i do not have enough ram, to find out what is taking up ur ram, go to task manager and go to the processes tab and list them by the mermory
Delete old programs and junk you don’t use, download Ccleaner to correct registry errors. Use MSCONFIG (Windows key + R, Type: MSCONFIG) to block unnecessary programs from running when you start your computer.
Also, if you’re running McAfee or Norton, switch to Avast antivirus. It’s free and doesn’t hog as much memory as those two.
With changing window
I got the same problem?
First thing to do is defrag ur registry. There are free programs that does that. Secondly, delete programs that you don’t use. Delete desktop clutter, and try to not run many programs at a time. Or you can reformat ur computer, after u backed up ur files, and it’ll be in the original condition, super fast….
Quit having sex with it.
I recommend cleaning up your registry. This will make your computer faster and stop computer freezing.
The more programs you download and older the computer gets, the more congested your registry becomes. This causes it to slow down and registry errors lead to computer freezing.
I recommend scanning your computer at http://www.registry-clean-up.net
Not only can you fix computer errors, there are numerous optimization features which can speed up your computer considerably.
