   There are a several reasons why your computer is freezing/slow. First question is when the last time you cleaned your registry.    If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don’t always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

   First, if you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

   2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space.Here is how:

   A million processes all at once equals a 1 Megabyte processor and that really would qualify as the world’s slowest computer!
   Anyway, adding RAM would make it faster. But I bet that you have a lot of spyware that installed itself and is running in the background that is eating up all of your processor speed. Find and download something like "Spybot:Defend and Destroy" (or whatever its called…) and run that and it will probably find a thousand spybots on your computer, maybe more. It will remove them and the computer will run faster. AND download AdAware and run that and it will also find up to about 30,000 adbots on your computer. Between the two programs they will find just about everything except a virus. Your computer will start zipping again.

   uninstall programs you dont use or need
   if you have too many things stored on your computer, it will run really slow
   also, delete temporary internet files, cause they add up and slow down your computer

   and if you want to risk it, you can delete your antivirus software, which would speed up your computer a lot, but it would leave you vulnerable to viruses and junk

    How old is old?

    If you are concerned about spyware hit up: Spybot Search and Destroy

    Other than that, you can start out fresh, you can back up your data to an external hard drive and format your hard drive.

    This way your computer starts at square one with no problems.

    If you want to spend a little bit of money on upgrades at the same time these are the first things I would look at:

    1: Add some RAM or replace with new.
    2: Upgrade Processor
    3: Add Video Card (incase you watch movies or play video games)

    Most PC retail stores will offer this service and will review feasible upgrades with you.

    Make sure they vacuum and dust your case too!
