My computer (Dell) crashed on me and via Blus Screen diagnostic, I’m getting error code "c0000218 {registry file failure} The registry cannot load hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\config\SOFTWARE or its log ot alternate. It is corrupt, absent or not writeable."
Any ideas what these errors are and how to resolve them? If there is a place for me to look this up, let me know. I haven’t backed up my files in a few weeks, so there are SEVERAL things I need to get off the hard drive!

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

you can download ERD Commander, and burn it to a disk. Its like a bootable copy of windows XP.. You can then recover the important data. I dont know how easy it is to use a USB Disk, but an external drive would be a good idea.
Else, use the good old fashioned floppy disk, and copy each file.
Then just format the drive and start over, dont bother with the Repair option, its ofter patchy and fails!
The only problem is, ERCD costs money, A LOT! 😮
so… you could remove the drive and stick it in another machine. Its not a big thing, you could use a trusted friends! 🙂
Run the drive as a slave and just take all the data required, then formatting after! 🙂
Good Luck
