Get rid of Norton it crashes systems and makes them unstable sometimes the only way to cleanse a system of this beast is to reformat a computer 🙁
When you are clever, then you do not reinstall Norton virus protection.
It is no good and makes your pc very slow.
There are lots of free very good alternatives. For example :
Because free programs are never completely as secure as the programs you are paying for I always recommend not to install either AVG free or Avast free, but one of those 2 in combination with 2 other programs.
AVG free
http://free.avg.com/
or
Avast free
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht…
Then the 2 programs you should install togehter with one of the above.
Threatfire is an anti virus, that can be installed next to any other anti virus program on the same computer
http://www.threatfire.com/
There is a lot of mal ware you have to protect your pc against.
This is a very good program, that completely runs in the background
http://www.comodo.com/boclean/boclean.ht…
When you do not have a good firewall yet, you could install this one
http://www.pctools.com/firewall/
Installing these programs, will not use any extra RAM or CPU usage.
Your computer will be very well protected and it does cost you nothing
When you have a good firewall then the one I suggested is then an option, but when you are happy with the one you have, stick with it
This is a good choice don’t believe people who say other wize.
Have you down loaded and installed the yahoo tool bar, if not do so.
Go to yahoo/Att home page by clicking on red y on tool bar.
Then go to member center, then personal Information.
Then products and services tab. There is all you are entitled to and down loads.
Hope this helps.
Norton is a resource hog and not very good at finding malware, I would suggest that you uninstall it with the Norton Removal Tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Select your product version and follow on screen instructions.
Also use RevoUninstaller to remove any remnants:
http://www.download.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html?part=dl-RevoUnins&subj=uo&tag=button&cdlPid=10854684
It’s faster and better than add / remove applet.
When you run it highlight the item then select uninstall in next window select Advanced and click Next, follow prompts when uninstalled it will scan registry and drive for leftover files / folders, click + sign to expand all results and tick ONLY the bold items and follow prompts.
Install Avast anti-virus which better definitions, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit built in, faster and more reliable:

This is not a limited version but a full tool to clean your computer from Malware, Spyware, Trojans, Backdoors, Worms, Dialers and Keyloggers.
How to use:

All are free and do not conflict with each other, low resource usage too.
Don’t bother!
Norton is well known to cause slow-down and other problems.
To give an example – how many companies do you know that have had to write a program to, fully, remove their own products?
Try one of the free AV’s, they’re every bit as good (if not better) than norton.
Norton Live update are responsible for BSOD ( Blue Screen Of Death )
for millions of PC in China. see story
http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9019958
Norton Live update is a defective system and sometimes a faulty update will break the auto update.
Forcing you to uninstall and re-install Norton to get the latest update. Some older PCs at my company
are still using Norton while other newer PCs are using Symantec. Uninstall and re-install Norton & Symantec on those PCs because of live update problem is a common practise.
According to an article by the Washington Post,
Norton Antivirus had one of the worst average response times
for providing virus definition updates based on the worst virus outbreaks,
lagging behind every major competitor, including NOD32, Kaspersky,
Quick Heal, F-Secure, Sophos, Avira, Trend Micro, F-Prot, Panda, Protector Plus, AVG, avast!, ClamWin, and McAfee.
Therefore, it is better for you get Avast Home Edition version 4.8 ( FREE for personal use )
