Clean your Registry can make your computer faster
Is your computer slower than ever? Does it feel like your computer just can’t open up programs? In this how to, it will teach you ways to make your computer faster.
The one way you can really boost your PC performance is by buying more ram to install in your computer. If you can go to a store and ask them to install more ram, that will help the computer run faster than before.
Step2
Scan your computer for viruses and spyware. Make sure and get rid of any nasty viruses or spyware that are located in your computer.
Step3
Get rid of unnecessary start up programs. The start up programs will load on your PC automatically and slow down your system. Click run and type in msconfig. Click on startup items and uncheck any useless start up programs.
Or use the tool to manage your startup:
Step4
Run disk de-fragment and disk clean up. Both programs will be found in your accessory folder and both clean up the system.
Step5
Clean your Registry

I would say you first of all scan your system with any good system cleaner such as Reginout to clean your system of excessive data that gives errors and cause slowdown. Also, uninstall unnecessary programs. I hope your problem will be solved. Few more steps will also help you:
1. Make Sure Your Hardware is Sufficient: Above and beyond everything you can do with software to optimize the function of your computer, making sure you have the proper hardware to support Windows is critical.
2. Clean Your Desktop: Is your Windows Desktop dotted with files? Have you noticed that your computer has been running slower and slower? Do you see the hard drive light often flashing while you wait for the computer to respond to an action? There are steps you can take to fix it. Read this article.
3. Scan Your Windows System for Errors: An operating system is a collection of files that perform different functions. It is possible, over time, that one or more of these system files has changed or become corrupted. If this happens, the speed of your system may decrease. By using a utility called “System File Checking”, it will inspect these files and correct any problem it finds.
4. Scan for Viruses, Spyware and Adware: Every Windows computer is vulnerable to viruses. Viruses are nasty little programs that cause both major and minor problems for users. Spyware and Adware are programs created by companies to find out more information about customers, so they can better market products to them. Spyware and Adware can load into computer memory and slow it down.Periodically scanning and removal of Viruses, Spyware and Adware is a great way to improve computer performance.
5. Uninstall Unused Programs: Over time, you may have accumulated programs on your computer that you do not use. When a program is installed, it creates connections between the program and the operating system. Even if you don’t use these programs, they can slow down your system. If you have the original program’s installation disk or file, removing programs will free up space on your computer and may speed up your system’s performance.
6. Adjust Visual Effects for Better Performance: Windows provides a number of interesting visual effects including animated windows and fading menus. If you do not have enough operating memory (see above number 1), these effects can slow down your computer. Adjusting or reducing visual effects can make a difference.
7. Don’t Automatically Start Programs: Programs use operating memory (RAM, also called system resources). Unless you always use these programs, you can keep them from loading at Windows startup and speed both the booting of your computer and its performance. Manage startup programs using reginout.
8. Defragment Your Hard Drive: The more information and programs you have on your computer, the more it is likely that Windows has placed parts of the same file in different locations on your hard drive. It may do this for hundreds of files and programs, depending on how much space is available. Defragmenting the hard drive places all information for each file in one place. The result can be a faster computer experience.
Hello, Daniel! Yes, there are several no-cost ways to boost your performance, because XP, even though old, was one of the best suited to this task. Congratulations! (on your choice of operating systems). Just follow these steps and you will make full use of the computer. Ready?
#1) Defragment daily, even if XP says it’s not necessary. IT IS CRUCIAL ! BE SURE TO DEFRAG AFTER ANY MAJOR CHANGES OR GAME INSTALLS. Don’t use while defragging, though, or any opened files (windows opens 30 just to reach the desktop) wont get defragged.
#2) CONTROL PANEL, SYSTEM, PROPERTIES, PERFORMANCE, visual effects tab: Use either the let windows choose what’s best (default) or the "best performance" tab, (fastest). The next tab is for whether your computer devotes more processor time for foreground applications (default) or gives equal amounts of time to all programs (fastest). Under that sets whether windows should use more memory for running applications (default) or for a large system cache (fastest). The last entry sets the size of your paging file, and whether to let windows control it (default) or you wish to specify your own. (custom) By default, windows sets the maximum size to 1and1/2 times the amount of ram you have installed, in your case, 448mb. Left alone, with windows in charge, the size of the paging file varies as the system needs it, to the maximum size. THIS CONSTANT SIZE CHANGING MEANS MORE WORK FOR THE HARD DRIVE, CONTROLLERS, AND THE OPERATING SYSTEM, TOO. CHOOSE CUSTOM, AND SET THE MINIMUM AND THE MAXIMUM TO THE SAME SIZE! (I’D PERSONALLY RECOMMEND 1,500mb and 1,500mb for games and video). Click the apply button any time it is highlighted to save current changes, exit the system tab, and re-start your windows(so the new values get written permanently into the registry).
#3)VISIT THE PROCESSORS WEBSITE FOR THE RIGHT CHIPSET AND GRAPHICS DRIVERS.
DOWNLOAD ALL THE ONES FOR YOUR SYSTEM’S MOTHERBOARD, CHIPSET, AND ON-BOARD DEVICES. This is extremely crucial to your computer’s performance !!!
"http://downloadcenter.intel.com ‘. for an intel PROCESSOR.
"http://support.amd.com ". for an AMD. Defragment when everything has been installed, restart too!
#4) NOW that your system is sleek and lean, right click on the start button, choose manage my computer, and welcome to console 1 of the MICROSOFT MANAGEMENT CONSOLE, where the secrets of windows can be had with some judicious reading through the MMC help files and applying what you have learned from them (there’s so much more you can do, but I don’t have the space here for it). CHOOSE EVENT LOG, and right click on all of the log types to clear them (frees disk space) and right click on the listings "applications","security"and"system" to select properties,
where you can disable the logs. No one but microsoft’s own technical staff uses them in real life, and the system loses out in the overhead associated with monitoring all the processes for failure and logging it when it happens (wasted disk space) -you will know when windows fails ! (and did you really need to know every single audited action, pass and fail?).
#5) VISIT THESE TWO SITES FOR YOUR PROTECTION NEEDS. THEY WORK TOGETHER VERY WELL. VERY! "http;//malwarebytes.org ". and "http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/security_esentials ". Both of these are free! (and good).
Then, defragment daily !!! For any questions, more tips, YOU may E-mail me at:
t.welch2112@yahoo.com and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Have fun !!!
NO way. You need to spend some money. You will need as a bare minimum 512 mb of ram, 1GB would be better.
Be carefull what you install, because it will take up hard drive space as well as us more RAM.
try this go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>then disk clean up also do the disk defragmenter located in system tools also. hope this works 🙂
in internet browser, go to tools, and internet options. go to delete browsing history and click delete. then go to the rest of tabs and reset all settings to default. this should increase speed. try this whenever you get slow speed on internet. if that dont work, call ur internet provider tech support line.
If you just started fresh its not going to get any faster without spending money.
Not that old junk.
There are some non-critical services that can be shut down.
This may be of some use: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1036/windows-xp-list-of-services-to-disable-to-increase-speed/
No. 224MB of RAM is simply not enough for a properly paced XP system. Maybe over clock your processor but I doubt that will do much. Have 512MB at very very minimum.
