You should be able to do a test print even if the printer is not connected to the computer. Power it up, then press the the feed/print button on your printer to print the test page. Read your printer manual to find out what maintenance options it gives you.
Alternatively, a weak isopropanol solution can be applied to the print head using a paper towel. The isopropanol will dissolve the dried ink.

If she has the manual for the printer, she should read it. Usually there is a combination of keys that you can press to do the head cleaning operation.
If she doesn’t have the manual go to the manufacturers web site and you should be able to locate a manual for that model to download or read online.
