Visit the 2 links below. 1st link read 7 quick fixes. 2nd link will inform you on software that needs updating or is no longer supported.
3rd even thought you remove programs through the control panel they are still in your computer. Go to C > Programs Files > and delete the programs you no longer have installed.
When you defrag it the temporary internet files, app downloads, etc. will give you the option to delete them. Go to control panel, performance and maintenance, and select rearrange items on your hard disk to make programs run faster.
Consider this an excellent time to recognize that
your operating system is defective. I recommend replacing
it with one of:
http://fedora.redhat.com
http://www.centos.org
http://www.opensuse.org
http://www.debian.org
http://www.ubuntu.org
http://www.slackware.org
http://www.freebsd.org
http://www.opensolaris.org
Any of these will be more reliable, less susceptible to
viri, uses your hardware more efficiently, and they’re
all free.
The same way as for XP. They are both based on NT.
Some progs you can try are:
CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Spybot Search & Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Ad-Aware
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3405-8022-5153545.html
TweakNow RegCleaner
http://www.tweaknow.com/RegCleaner.html
I use them all on my XP except I haven’t tried CCleaner yet. But I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
Also be sure to clean out your Cache, Cookies, Internet Files, etc.
Once you have your computer clean THEN you can run Scan Disk and THEN Defrag. Then set a New Restore Point with a CLEAN computer.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!
