the only reason windows xp would not be safe is if you dont have aninternet security program which stops attacks, spam, trojans etc, get a good one and also ensure that windows auto updates are turned on ( in control panel), then win xp will be just fine, I know Im using it on 2 pc's and both are virus free….. if you get a GOOD security program you dont need to bother with spyware programs…the one package will deal with it all.
Have you installed service pack2?
available on microsoft's site
start
my computer
right click on local disc C:
left click on properties
ist screen – left click on Disk Cleanup (OK)
next
2nd tab is TOOLS – left click
error checking – CHECK NOW
put check marks in both boxes (left click with cursor)
START NOW (will probably give you a message to restart your
computer so that it can have it fresh without anything else running)
next one below – defragment – DEFRAG NOW
analyze first – your computer will see if this needs to be done
if so – do it – if not click out – and restart your computer
to let the error checker repair any problems with your disk
best of luck
\/ here is the miscrosoft web site – you can check for any updates
go to start then to accessories then system tools and then youve got disk cleanup. you should also defragment sometimes
Any software such as Windows XP is only as safe as the person using it is knowledgeable. That is to say, if you have your SECURITY settings set correctly, your firewall turned on, an up-to-date Anti-Virus (AVG FREE is excellent) and anti-spyware (AVG Antispyware FREE) and you don;t open emails from people you never heard of and don't ever reply to them and tell them to P*SS OFF because then they know for sure your email address is gennuine and will sell it to others. If you have done all that you are pretty safe. Hackers will always find a way to get in if they really want to, even the new Windows VISTA has been hacked so don't worry about XP being unsafe. It is no more unsafe than any other O/S.
To clean up your computer, check for any problems, viruses, spyware and get rid of them and have your HD defragged go to the MS web site below and get a free FULL SERVICE SCAN. May take a while to do everything but it cleans out all the crap and fixes problems you didn't know existed – it is FREE to use.
