Good luck!
well you didn’t give much info as to what hardware is in your computer i.e the cpu class, Pentium 4 etc, and how much ram memory you have. so all i can recommend at the moment is to shut off all the programs that are running in the back ground by start>run>msconfig.exe>start up. then turn off all programs you don’t need, which is basically anything that isn’t an anti virus.click apply, then reboot.after that run your a.v to check for viruses, and if it supports doing so,have it check for broken keys in the software. if you want a program that can do basically all of this for you, avanquest’s system suite is a good program that can do this, plus has a firewall/anti virus/spam scanner included
You could upgrade your computer’s hard drive by buying a bigger memory card. This will speed it up. Also, try and see if there are any virus on your computer. If so, you could probably delete them by going to command prompt and typing msconfig.
Update your computer, I updated mine by going to Microsoft website. (I don’t remember where though.)
OR
Buy the "System Mechanic." We bought one and helps our computer plus speeds it up a little.

If you really don’t want to spend the money on getting a new computer, almost any dual core would probably be a great improvement, but I have one program called Tuneup Utilities. It has lots of programs in one to speed up your computer. There’s even a 1-Click Maintenance button that will check for all problems in one click. On all the computers that ive used it on it speeds them up every time. You can find it for download on http://www.tune-up.com . It may not be free, but it’s totally worth the price. Hope it helps!
reformat br sure to backup
now go to best buy or somthing and buy the 8gig ram ur computer will be yelling with speed and now u have to upgrade everything like video card to latest and ur motherboard to pci instead of agt if u have agt.
and now upgrade ur Windows if its like 98 and 95 and melleniom and 2000 upgrade to xp
or vista if u want to get latest technoligy but not all programs work good on it thats y i stick to xp and vista also uses alot of ram so its really like 4 gb ram wit vista
PS if u buy a new video card u will need a new motherboard all u see theese days is pci cards not many agt’s and be sure to get atleast a dual motherboard that way u can hold more memory and ram more will fit this way
also change fans they might not be strong enough for all the new things so also get a new fan
All of these things will cost u about 600$
i would rather u buying a new pc for like 500$ but its ur choise like always no one knows ur pc like u do
All this info i gave is also usable for a high gaming PC this is what i did and now i can run the latest things like bf3 and call of duty 4
so its ur choise
i say stick wit the upgrading
if u buy a new highly upgraded gaming pc its odd of being 500$ or even 600$ are like one in a million
u can get upgradings online for cheaper than instantly buying from stores. but u have to wait for them
but then again 3-10 is a good deal to save 200$
you can either clean up your computer by deleting never been used program , cookies , spyware and viruses or use a recovery disc to bring back your computer to a stage that when you bought it.
second thing you can do is upgrade your ram by replacing your old one.
hope this will help.
Formatt it is the most easiest
backup anything you need
using the operating system disk delete partition then create new partition formatting it, then reinstall operating system
if its still slow, new ram or chip (CPU)
Well to speed up a computer, there’s really not much you can do..
For updates, go to Windows Update. (update.windows.com)
Sorry I couldn’t of been more help, but there is really no way to freely speed up a computer.
Adding memory might help, but that is just one component of the whole system, which is only as fast as the slowest element. So it may not necessarily make sense to make that investment.
Programs and updates may be beneficial but dependent on the hardware you’ve got.
