The backup options in Home Premium are too limited in my opinion.
I recommend you use one of the free disk imaging softwares available.
Paragon Backup & Recover
http://www.paragon-software.com/home/db-express/
Macrium Reflect
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp
Install one of these (I personally use Paragon) and you can do a full system image to a disc, external drive, network drive, etc. This will get you an image file that can load your system in the exact state it is in now in a fraction of the time a complete reinstall would take. Bootable DVDs are what I make for my customers but with Win7 you will probably need a few DVDs to make a full backup. Paragon will give you an estimate of how many GB the backup will be after it does compression.
Magic
Honestly i don’t really trust the backup solution microsoft includes with its Windows operating system. I would suggest you use some backup and recovery solution like Paragon Backup & Recovery Free Edition 10.1 Build 9169
It is free, it can create a recovery disc, it can backup and restore partitions even if Windows does not work anymore and it works very well on all the systems i’ve tried it so far (XP, Vista or WIN7)
Here’s a quick link to it: http://bstdownload.com/reviews/paragon-backup-recovery-free-edition-10/
