You need to know a bit about them as sometimes they mistake (and remove) things as ‘problems’ that may be needed by some app down the line.
If you are getting "an automatic message saying hey you have such and such registry errors clean them now" that means you computer is probably infected with a virus. It’s a common ploy to get you to buy some useless program.
i would really recommend CCleaner.
Its free, safe, microsoft certified. It gets rid of the junk files(temp files, history, cache etc) and has the ability to securely delete them or things in your recycle bin. Its also has a registry cleaner, which doesnt see to pick up/delete registry entries that will harm your computer when deleting(i have had no problems in 3 years. And the small chance it could do that, it asks you to back up your registry, and you can just open that backup to get everything back. There are a few other tools like an uninstaller(instead of going to add/remove programs) and lets you stop programs from starting up automatically when windows does(instead of going to msconfig.exe)
I think its a great utility for anyone from the normal computer user to anyone more tech savy.
They have a few other useful free tools too. (when you go to like this page: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download scroll down alittle bit and in the middle you will see Download from Piriform.com click on that.)
Also dont just keep clicking next when installing it. This like EVERY free program(even things like adobe flash player) try to install some other things on your computer. in this case its a yahoo or google toolbar for your browser. So just pay attention when installing free things.
@ Gus K
yes you also have to watch it with free programs. they will sometimes tell you you have problems and click here to fix and they either delete needed files or just actually do nothing. (cough advanced system care cough, or any IObit software for that matter).
This is NOT the case with ANY piriform software.
Well, some are protected because it is nessasery to run a program or windows, if you want to use a register cleaner use CCleaner, i’ve used to for a long time for cleaing cookies/register. 🙂
ps, ohye it’s legally free
