Depending upon where you’re located, around $35/hr or $75 flat rate for the fresh install. You’re coming in below the price of Staples/Best Buy, which is the idea.
For example, GeekSquad charges (being pretty conservative here, and using in store cost):
99.99 For Data Backup
129.99 forOperating System Install
49.99 Software Suite Install (antivirus)
Or, you can do what I do – charge em 50-100 bucks, and some beer.
Find out what shops in your area charge and use that as a basis. Then figure out what your time is worth, both to you and the client.
If you turn the problem around in 1/2 the time then you’re twice as valuable. If you don’t jack his data and photos like Geek Squad then you’re even more valuable. If you come to his house and fix things then you’re doing house calls….I think you can figure it out.
$50 minimum
The market value is around $45/hour.
I’m in a situation similar to yours in some ways. I want to do more repairs and related work and i can’t seem to get paid what i think the job is worth. People pay but you can tell some of them aren’t happy.
I don’t want to gouge people as i want to gain a good reputation.
Yet, people will pay a technician in a building with a sign and not blink an eye.
If you do a great job for them and you know it you should ask for what you think is fair. I would charge at least $50.00 for what you want to do.
