I have run AVG virus checker, Ad-Aware spyware checker, a registry cleaner (Eusing), defragged the hard drive, deleted temp files, cleaned the IE history, but the PC still runs slow. It’s got a decent spec, so is there anything else I can do to boost it’s performance?
Thanks

You can download and scan your computer for free.
If you have all your windows updates you can run the microsoft windows malicious software removal tool by typing mrt into the run command box and click ok to launch it. The microsoft windows malicious software removal tool often finds stuff that most anti-virus software never detects.
Does those particular programs say that you have viruses? Sometimes different programs (including ones in your background) require a certain amount of memory or require your processor to work harder (meaning high CPU usage) that could make you pc run slower–just because you have "decent specs" does not exclude it from running slow lol . I have a dell desktop that i upgraded myself – 256 starting RAM, now i have 1 gig, cd-rom drive, now have a DVD/CD RW drive, and guess what, when i run alot of tabs in firefox or IE 8, it eats up my memory and CPU usage lol it drives me crazy. Also running my automatic scans within AVG and doing other things on my pc @ the same time takes memory. Try going to http://www.pcpitstop.com and test your whole PC, it is a good free website that i visit all the time, they can tell you in dept information about your PC and make suggestions on what you should upgrade to keep it performing @ its best. Hope that helps!

You could have bad sectors where it is trying to read those sectors several times. Reboot to safe mode, go to Recovery Console and run.
chkdsk /r
I would back up anything important first. If you have games that you can reinstall then don’t bother backing them up.
And chkdsk will take a hours to complete, especially when it finds bad sectors. A lot of bad sectors is a sign of a failing hard drive. If you get a lot of bad sectors and you don’t go through the process of installing a new hard drive or buying a new computer then one day, your system will not boot up…not even in safe mode.
Could be bad sectors on your computer. Right click on the hard drive in My Computer, click on Tools, then click "check volume" and check both boxes.
Restart your computer and it will automatically run the scan. If there are ANY bad sectors (on the report after everything has scanned), I recommend backing up your data IMMEDIATELY and getting a new hard drive (I have a laptop I’m doing this to as we speak).
Also, Malware Bytes is much better than AdAware.
Download these and run them.
