i have a pc that needs a clean install, i have a XP HOME disc (same as current OS) but its not the same XP home disc supplied with this PC. my question is, if i do a clean install with this disc, what will happen with regards to the license key, will i need a new one or can i use the current key (sticker on the side of PC) and will this work. because in theory im not using it for a different computer???

You paid for the license key and not for the CD.
So when yu have the original key, you can use any CD you borrow form somebody and use it to install windows. Must me same version of course. I mean Windows XP Home and not XP Pro.
You will have no problem activating it after you installed windows.
One thing to know is, when you activated it 3 times, you can not activate it for the 4th time, without contacting Microsoft by phone ( free number)
It is nothing to worry about, it is normal procedure. After your phone call you can activate windows again for another 3 times.
yes it will work but if you have any problems you will need to register it over the phone with Microsoft.
Your current Product Key should work. If you are unable to Activate the Windows over the Internet and are directed to telephone activation, simply explain you have performed a System Recovery on your computer
The sticker on side of your pc will work for your installation.
So you wont need a new one.
Put the XP Home Edition Disc into a cd/dvd-rom and set the bios to boot from CD/DVD-ROM. Wait for the message to ask you to press any keys to continue and then press any keys that you want to press. Finally, you will see a blue screen and then follow the instructions on the blue screen to format the system and here you can clean install the os.
