1. Do a defragment
2. Do a spyware scan
3. Check your status by holding down Ctrl + Alt + Delete a box will pop up you will see all the program that is now running on your PC. End task you do not want to run.
4.Close all running programs that run in the back
by doing that go to the Start button click on Run type the word [ msconfig ]in the space. click enter next click start-up button and untick all the ones you see say startup.
when my computer is running slow that what I do and it help me. You do not have to take my full words for it. Just to let you know what I do that when my PC going slow.
If There is any other way, I would love to know.
Good Luck.
Use Add/Remove Programs to get rid of unneeded programs.
Use the registry editor START>RUN regedit
search for the KEY named RUN
delete any entries you find there that you don;t need or any with weird names. these are programs set to run when the computer starts and can kill cpu power…you;ll need to search the registry for the run keys multiple times so find em all.
after that…..defragment your harddrive….after all that your system should be running close to new if not like new..
Try majorgeeks.com.
1: Defrag your hard drive. You can find effective ways how to defrag your hard drive on various websites.
2: Clean up unwanted documents.
3: Use CCleaner to clean unwanted registries [be aware that it may clear certain registries needed for some applications; know what you’re doing before doing something]. However with CCleaner you CAN clean up Internet Explorer Cache or other caches that are not necessary for certain applications and can safely be done.
74 GB is also the size of my hardisk. All the other answers are great; in addition, I would recommend WinDirStat http://windirstat.info/ because it show you what is hogging up your disk space. You can then delete the files that you no longer need.
