   Well when you boot up a windows xp installation disk, there is an option to repair without reformatting the drive…but that’s not going to help you in your case..I would just use the add or remove programs tool to get rid of all those pointless programs. Then do a defrag. That should help at least a little.

   I definitely reccomend backing important files and just doing a reformat. It is truely the best way to get your computer working how it used to. I do it yearly.

   Unless you are prepared to uninstall each program manually then i recomend a format and reinstall. I would check with your Dad first, before interferring with his computer
