Your PC is constantly reading and writing to a registry while you work, or while you are playing games, on it. This all happens in the background without you even noticing. When your PC was new, this was no problem, but the longer you have your computer, the more programs you install on it and the more the registry becomes bloated and damaged. This is the reason that your PC is running slower and might crash all of a sudden without warning. Your computer needs to work hard to go through all the registry bloat, or it might simply crash if it comes across a faulty entry.A registry cleaner will scan and repair your registry.Frequent maintenance using a registry cleaner is crucial to make your computer go faster.I should like to commend Registry Easy http://best-way-to-improve-pc-performance.com to you !
First of all scan your computer with reliable antivirus software first – it might be slow because it’s infected. I recommend Avira AntiVir Personal and Malwarebytes. You can install them together. Both are free, both very good. I don’t like AVG because it slows down your computer (which you definitely don’t need)
Then here’s what you can do:
1. Uninstall software you never use via the Control Panel – Add/Remove Programs
2. Clean up junk files (e.g. temp files, browser cache). I know you’ve already done that, but do it again after uninstalling stuff. Besides you can clean up old System Restore points using the Windows Disk Cleanup tool. To do that click on the Advanced tab and click Clean up next to the old System Restore points. I know you’ve used CCleaner, but sometimes it misses stuff
3. Clean the registry
4. Sort through your startup items – there might be things like Windows Live messenger starting on every computer boot, which slows down the computer. You can always start that messenger manually
5. Defrag hard drives. I know you’ve already done that, but it’s good to defrag again after uninstalling software.
You can do all this manually or using a combination of free tools like CCleaner (which you know of), Revo uninstaller, Auslogics Disk Defrag etc. Also you could get an optimization suite like BoostSpeed, where you can do it all and more from one program. It also can optimize services and there are custom profiles to choose from, like Gaming profile. Always worth a try. Links below.
try installing the softwares and games in drives other than OS installed one..
try to have at least 50% of free space in the OS drive..
this can be accured by two ways,
the first is that you have installed any software in recent which damaged your performence.
otherwice there can be dust at the slot of ram.
the first problem can solved by uninstall the current software
and the other can be done by clening of hardware
you can also repair your xp by the recovery disk if any system file damaged by the virus.
2 gigs of ram is good enough. A lot of times if you re-install windows it rids you of all junk files and there are a lot of them. You lose all extras so save games and photos and music first. You could also put in a faster processor, all it needs is to have the same socket number; buy from Newegg.com for best store. It is actually easy to do, I built a pc withh no experience and it works fine (did a lot of reading first). You will need to buy some thermal paste also if you do this. E-mail me if you need to know more, just click on my avatar. Go to [BelarcAdvisor] scan your pc and it will tell you everything in your pc.
Have you cleaned out the inside of your case lately. It sounds like the CPU or GPU could be overheating. Check your if your CPU fan is still working.
Try defragmenting the hard drive.
Loading maps is direct use of the hard drive, and if that randomly became slow, then it sounds to me like you hard drive might be on its last leg. I would back up your information and possibly look into a new hard drive. Unfortunately, this involves a clean install of Windows.
Do you notice any loud ticking or knocking noises coming from the drive? How old is it?
The hard drive is most likely the first component to die in a computer.
