I have a gateway laptop and whenever I turn in on, it wont go to the log in screen. I says :
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. then there are 2 options Launch start up repair or start windows normally. When i clicked start windows normally, the green bar thing loads for like 5 minutes, then it just goes black. When I tried Launch start up repair, the results showed 1 root cause. It says system volume on disk is corrupt
repair action: file system repair (chkdsk)
result: completed successfully error code 0x0
Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance

I think your hard drive is bad. is it still under warranty? If its not you need to install a new drive and reinstall vista.
If you can boot your computer in safe mode (press F8 at startup) then chose safemode with command prompt and run a chkdsk /f to try and repair your computer if that doesn’t work boot your computer from the windows operating system and try the repair utility that’s on the disk.
Try unplugging anything thats plugged into it while it’s OFF, and plug in just the power chord first. Then turn it on. (You can plug whatever else in too, if you want) If it still doesn’t work, it’s possible it has a virus. Vista is the worst, XP is much much better.
When you unplug things while the laptop or computer is on it can cause a short and eat up the whole computer and that is not fixable.
Some things you can fix by going into safe mode, if you know how to.
