If it is the problem of virus, you really need to scan your computer thoroughly.

PS
The above link does NOT link you to content that I own. It am NOT promoting my own work; so don’t think that I’m spamming. The web page actually answers the question.
The most common cause of computer freezes is a corrupt registry.
Corruption within your registry keys, registry classes, and registry settings are the most common causes of Windows error messages.
The Computer registry is a database that stores all of your computer
settings. The computer registry becomes more complex as you use your computer. The more programs you use the greater the chance your
computer registry will develop errors and become bloated over time. Without cleaning the registry on a regular basis it is very likely that your PC will freeze.
Cleaning the Windows registry improves the performance of your computer and will reduce the number of PC freezes. The Registry cleaner cleans the registry and frees up Windows registry space.
Completely clean your windows registry with a few clicks of the mouse

Nothing can be more annoying than a slow running, freezing computer. It wastes your valuable time waiting for it to get going. It is aggravating and something you just do not have to tolerate.
When the computer was newer it was not like that. It was a pleasure to use when it ran fast and smoothly.
you can check your pc health online:

The Windows operating system constantly refers to the registry to get information about all of the components such as hardware and software which are installed on the computer. The registry tells Windows what to do and how to access the various programs, files, and processes. However, the registry can contain bad information which sends Windows off doing useless tasks or running unneeded routines. Sometimes errors occur including the freezeing. Other times the system slows down. Because of the sheer number of factors that can affect the registry, there’s no one size fits all approach. You can’t just go into the registry and remove the bad information because it’s nearly impossible to decipher which information is good and which information is bad. That’s a job better suited for software. I should like to commend Registry Easy http://clean-computer-run-quickly.com to you ! You can try ! Good luck!

Disk Defragment
Defrag didn’t help, anti-virus also was of no help….hmm
Install avast anti-virus from net and do a full schedule scan(which will automatically scan after booting your pc)….
If this also doesn’t help then install a fresh copy of windows, its quiet a pain…lol
And install Advance Window Care software it helps to make your pc a bit faster n keep safe
inorder to fix dangerous viruses you may have to scan the system not from the windows environment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! instead you have to use the cd provided by antivrus software right from the booting of the system……..many av providers have facility for it by this method you can track all viruses and remove it.
there are also other options for eg-avast have a facility to scan the system without being getting into the system environment……..ie prior to the loading of windows….
Try Disk Cleanup or Restoring your computer, located in Windows’ System Tools.
In addition to defragging, you should also check for errors and compress the disk. If those don’t help, then I would also try just rebooting it all from system defaults. If you have an anti virus running, and it’s not helping, then I’m not sure what else to suggest other than possibly updating the software. Hope that helps!
Sorry to hear about your problem. If you don’t want to buy a new system, there are quite a few tweaks you can do on your own:
Remove unneeded startup programs
Run a disk cleanup and defragger
Clean up the Windows registry
You can also download software that can do all three of these things automatically. I recommend tying it out and scanning your system for free at:
