Somehow or other, I downloaded something called PC Registry Cleaner onto my computer, to fix a problem. Of course, they said it was "free" so I’m a sucker, and now they want my credit card number before they will exit from my computer. It shows up every time I go to my Yahoo page and it is really ticking me off! If I give them my credit card number (they want security code, too) how do I know I won’t be ripped off? Buyer beware! (Who can I report this VERY unethical behavior to, and get quick results?)

hi there,
This sounds like a variant of the Drive Cleaner Infection.
The best and easiest way to remove this infection is by installing the Free Trial of Prevx1. This will scan your PC and remove all infections free of charge.

If you’ve tried the "add/remove program" everyone suggested, and you still have the problem, try doing an advanced search for files and folders containing PC Registry Cleaner.
1. Click start > search > all files and folders
2. Type in "pc registry cleaner" (no quotes) in the "all or part of file name" box
3. Look In: My computer
4. Under more advanced options, make sure the first 3 boxes are checked (search system folders, hidden files and folders, and subfolders)
5. Click on Search button
6. If any files or folders are found, highlight by clicking once, then delete
If this doesn’t cure the problem, you’ll probably have to edit your registry but this is a last resort option. A wrong deletion could cripple your entire system.
I also found this link to PC Registry Cleaner:

At the very bottom of the site is this notice:
PC Registry Cleaner does not contain any spyware of any kind. You will not receive any popups or other ads as a result of installing this software on your computer. If you want to remove PC Registry Cleaner from your PC you can uninstall it easily with just a few clicks.

I suppose you can contact them (either on the Help or Support link upper right corner of site, or snail mail.) Tell them you will report them to your state’s Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Attorney General if they don’t assist you in getting rid of the unwanted junk. DO NOT give your credit card number or security code!
plrr
Yeah, that’s pretty terrible behavior. I’m assuming you are getting these messages when you try to add/remove in the control panel. They probably have an applet that starts and runs in the background whenever you boot up your computer. Try starting your computer in safe mode (hit f8 on boot until boot menu appears) and then go into your control panel and try add/remove programs there. Don’t use the programs uninstall routine because that will probably start your problems all over again.
A good registry cleaner (and free and no nagware) is Ccleaner which you can get at http://ccleaner.com
Good luck.
remove it from your add/remove program list in the control panel. after that open my computer, then open your hard disk drive, go under program files then look for the registry cleaner folder then delete it
to be safe, run your anti-spyware and anti-virus programs.
Did you try to go to your control panel and go to add/remove programs, and find it, and uninstall it.
I have the same problem; hope someone knows the answer.
Start/Settings/control panel/add and remove programs/find it/uninstall it.
