make sure you have the latest drivers, freezing may be due to a driver that is not compatible with some software
Use a set of installation disc or recovery disc set made for the lap top and install fresh new priginal operating system just like when it was new. If you do not have the recovery disc set order them by model and serial number from the manufacturer. Back up any thing of importance first as it will write over every thing on the hard drive reformatting the HD and installing new OS.
1. Put 1GB of RAM memory into the computer – make sure you buy the right kind for your computer, and make sure the computer can take 1GB of RAM.
2. Buy a new hard drive. For laptops I recommend the Western Digital Scorpio Blue drives. New hard drives are faster. Also old ones get errors and stop using DMA mode – they switch you permanently to PIO mode instead. You can check this in device manager by looking at the details of the disk control devices.
3. Buy a new battery for the laptop. An old battery will only keep it working for 5 to 10 minutes.
4. Upgrade the BIOS and all device drivers from the manufacturer’s web sitel
5. While you are at it, get a new WiFi mini PCI board (or whatever your computer takes) so it uses B/G or B/G/N.
Howard
P.S. Check that your hard drive is using DMA mode.
