   If you installed the Brother software, it should have installed scanner software as well. Try This to see. Put any document on the scanner platen face down. Then hit the Copy button. It should scan and print the document.

   Look under the Start->Program menu. There should be a scanning program under the Brother menu. It might say Scansoft.
