Ive had my laptop for about 5 years now. I dont no exactly what type it is but the brand is toshiba and it runs windows xp. I have done every type of scan and registry clean, disk cleanup, and defragmented. is there anything else i could do to speed it up more because it is still running farely slow or do you think i should just get a new laptop?

go to uninstall programs, try to uninstall every file u dont really need, crowding your computer really slows it down, and i no this is a little of topic but to speed up internet use google chrome its way faster and almost never lags, other than that u can get a new laptop
fresh install of xp, infact search for "xp tiny", its basicaly xp with all the crap taken out and it runs way faster.
I wouldnt go spndng any money on hardware for it, see how fresh OS does.
Laptops are really cheap nowadays, not worth upgrading a 5 year old one.
Good Luck
you could erase old programs you no longer use. You could back up all your photo’s and videos and then remove the to free up room. I would also suggest upgrading you speed. What is your hard drive? 1 Gb? 2 Gb? It is very, very easy to install ram, Just flip you laptop over, remove the small piece off the back and place a 2Gb or greater Ram in there. More Space means your processor can have more room to dump files, making your computer run faster!
5 years is pretty old. I would recommend buying a new one if you could afford it. If not, then upgrade your RAM, for a 5 year old laptop it should be really cheap. Just make sure you get the right kind.
If all else fails you may want to think about installing a less resource hungry Operating System (different linux distros).
Wait untill summer the new windows seven will be out and. Vista will be done and then buy a new laptop cause a laptop that is five years old prolly has a crappy processor and no ram or a de ent video card
Well you can chase after it and scream "RRRAAAAUGGHHH!"
or you can buy it a walking stick
Just get a new laptop, with stuff now adays its too hard to try to get old things to work better because the stuff now is far superior. They say that electronics are due to be replaced every 3-5 years! =O
uninstall non-required programs and services. clean up the hard drive. if possible add some RAM.
