Sometimes it is hard to clean a virus when it is running in the background, because it just replicates itself. The virus may also prevent you from installing an anti-virus program like AVG. I’ve seen many viruses try to stop people from cleaning them.
You can download Hiren’s Boot CD, boot to that CD, and then do spyware and virus scans from there. Also, many virus scans don’t detect spyware so I recommend using both spyware and virus protection.
I’d also recommend the following:
Download Process Explorer from here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
That will show you every process running on your computer. You can google up the process names to find out what they are, and kill the ones you don’t want running. This might kill the virus so you can clean it properly.
Download and install a HOSTS file from here:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Download Spybot Search and Destroy from here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/
Run a spyware scan. Also run the immunize feature.
Also run a virus scan. You can use Housecall for free here:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Or install AVG for free here: http://free.avg.com/
Check to see if the virus created a "service" that are runs in the background. Here is a guide to help you check Windows services.
http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm
Also check the "Startup" folder in your Start Menu. There are also items hidden in your registry that startup in the background.

The HOSTS file, Spybot’s immunize feature, Spybot’s TeaTimer service, and AVG anti-virus should protect you from getting new infections in the future. I also highly recommend surfing the web with either Firefox or Chrome. If you use Firefox, install Adblock Plus.
