Do a system restore. On my computer which may be different from others , not sure,. it is under maintenance. Once that window is open you will see a left hand column that says "system restore". Click on that and easy to follow intructions come up. Hope I have answered your question correctly. Also if you need to uninstall programs just go to "control panel" and click on and open up "Add and Remove", then click "remove on whichever things you want uninstalled
well you want to save your files such as documents and music, pictures stuff like that. easiest thing to do is put them on CD/DVD or onto an external harddrive. then put in the XP CD and restart your computer. when it says press any key to boot from cd do so. then the instructions are somewhat self explanatory. when you get to the part about partitions, delete the exisiting one. should say something like C:/ and it will have numbers next to it depending on the size of your drive. delete that one, and once that is done find where it says create new partition in unpartitioned space. if it asks make sure you make it a NTFS partition. once new partition is created continue with the installation. the whole process should take about 45 mins to an hour.
In all honesty you should never upgrade 98 to XP… some of the problems (viruses, spyware, messed up programs, etc) that you might have will go into your new "Upgraded" installation. Save all of your information and important data to CDs or DVDs. Then do a brand new installation. You won’t regret it.
make sure your computer is compatible for windows xp if not you might just have to buy a computer through http://www.dell.com that comes with xp
You shouldnt need to do anything other that put the XP disk in reboot and follow the prompts. It will remove and add what it needs to as the installation goes along. you will however lose all of your saved data/pictures/movies/music. Save all that you want to keep to cd/dvd backups before starting the install.
During the install.. Delete the C drive partition and then re-create it. that will do the trick for you. Getting rid of Viruses, spyware, etc., However. this does not affect RAM. Although I use this technique and never had a problem. that doesn’t mean that it’s an invinsible technique.
